10 Easy Steps to Resume Writing

  1. There is no such thing as a perfect resume. However, some are more effective than others. Why? They match what the client is seeking with the candidate's credentials.
  2. The purpose of a resume is to attract potential employer/recruiter's interest and to schedule an interview.
  3. Highlight your accomplishments. Quantify and qualify your accomplishments. A resume should not describe what you do. That is a job description.
  4. Use action verbs. Tell the story. Make your company, clients, products or services the heroes.
  5. Tell the truth! Never take liberties with salary, employment or education dates.
  6. Your resume is your marketing document. What features and benefits can you offer a prospective employer?
  7. Keep your resume to two pages. If you have been working for several years, education is listed last.
  8. Keep it short and simple. (KISS THEORY). You have 30 seconds to grab and keep someone's attention. What do you want him/her to remember?
  9. COMPUTER SKILLS: List your software capabilities. For example - Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Illustrator.
  10. Your resume must be letter perfect. NO typographical or spelling errors, otherwise your resume will be discarded.
