Working with an
Executive Recruiter: 10 Easy Steps
- Client companies have hired Lynn Hazan & Associates, Inc. (LH&A)
to recruit, screen and present candidates. You, the candidate, pay nothing!
- LH&A matches client needs (i.e. job specifications) with qualified
candidates. For example, if a public relations agency is seeking a candidate
with prior agency health care experience, then the recruiter must present
candidates who fit the client request. A candidate with financial
services would not be best suited for the position.
- A candidate should form a relationship with LH&A. Get to know your
recruiter. Find out what disciplines the recruiter works in. Determine
what he/she needs from you. For example, if the recruiter requests salary
information and references, provide them. Return your recruiter's phone
calls.
- Always have a CURRENT RESUME. No typographical errors, or you will
be eliminated. Bring your resume (and portfolio) for interviews.
- Verify names, titles, companies and addresses. Spell them correctly;
that shows attention to detail.
- Don't lie about your background. It will catch up with you. You will
then be classified as a dead or problem candidate. TELL
THE TRUTH. For example, did you graduate from college in June or December?
If you were fired from a job, tell your recruiter. The recruiter and
clients don't want surprises!
- Keep LH&A informed of your career progression; e.g. title changes,
promotions, salary increases, name changes, etc.
- Be prepared. Be on time for interviews. Dress professionally and project
a confident image.
- Be open to suggestions and feedback. LH&A knows what it takes to successfully
interview for a job and obtain an offer. Listen to that coaching!
- Referrals: if you were well-treated by your recruiter, pass on his/her
name to friends and colleagues. Recruiting is still a highly personalized
business.
